It is undeliverable how fast the development of small electric helicopter is, first Align started to have great success with small electric helicopter, and now there are several companies trying to get a bite of the electric helicopter marked.
I am personaly not hooked on electric helicopter yet, but at the last helibatic one of the pilot there just got a small Hurricane Gaui 200 and he could not stop fly that thing, he really had fun with it, hell he even entered one of the competition rounds with it.
Well here is a video with the pilot flying the Gaui 200 around, and he did control that helicopter quiet well as you can see.
Maybe I should get one of them small ones, just for the fun of it, one of the great things about the Gaui is the extreme cheap battery packs.
More than 1 out of 2 models in our club is made by Align. Impressive, but also a bit boring.
Fortunately I have had 2 experiences lately, which I am certain will allow room for some other manufactures. So there is still hope for a bit of variation.
First experience was at 3D Masters this year. I was fortunate enough to see Bobby Watts and Timothy from MA take off the canopy of the new MA prototype machine. It has no name yet, but that was not required to catch some attention in the air, and concenring its internal design, it certainly also caught some attention. High quality as usual, but also very innovative design. New ways to use carbon fiber and extremely compact. It will undoubtably be very exiting to check it out.
Second experience was at the club where a friend showed up with a Vibe 50. Incredible quality and looks. In the air incredible sound of the mechanics, but most importantly its flight characteristics gave me the same feelings I get when flying my Dyna X after my Trex 600. Superb tracking, which really give you extra confidence. Its YS50 on 30% made it impossible to see that the model is heavier than the Trex. Awesome power.
Still, Align has done a great job for this hobby. Not only fun models, but also pushing prices down everywhere. Just saw you can now get a Millinium 90SE for 590euro and a Dyna for 899euro. That is amazing.
So Align for the ‘Smack’, and the others for those extra great inflight experiences.
I am going to be honest with you, it is not very fun to have a Funtech muffler at this moment.
I have been struggling a bit with my muffler for the last couple of weeks, after I set my Freya up to run 1980RPM on the head, my Funtech muffler start to unscrew itself, not where it normally loosens but on the mount where the pipe is mounted see picture.
Naive as I am, I started to remount the pipe mount with some bigger screws 5mm, and that was no problem until I started to run the engine, after two thanks the mount was starting to loosen again. I cannot mount a 6mm screw and that would problem not help either. The washers in the muffler were not looking good either see picture.
Now this defect is after max 10 gallons of fuel, which is a pure design if you ask me!
Any sponsors with a new muffler for my OS 91SZ running 1980RPM on the head. I can add some advertisement on my site as payment?Contact me
One other think I noticed today was my tail blades are staring to make resonance sound, I was hovering inverted and with a 10 degree angle against the wind the tail blades was making a lot of noise. I have heard about this issue from a fellow pilot with standard Hirobo Freya tail blades. I guess this means that I need new tail blades to.
This is one of the frustrating times for a heli pilot when the hardware does not play along. I was flying really great today, practicing tic-toc and doing inverted hover in all directions. Now I am back to the bench fixing my helicopter and begging the wife for approval to by a new muffler. I must be great to be a sponsored pilot. :)
I just got home from a great weekend, with the last round of the Danish Helibatic. It went very well I got first place, see :)
I ended first place at the Danish Helibatic Sport 2008. It was the first time I entered a helicopter competition.
Finally yet importantly I am a real Pitchbrother now, I went for the grass cutting this weekend, and I got the sticker, check out this video of my flight.
Site note, please have a final look at the Google implementations of the pilot locator, I have been working on it for a while now, and the only thing missing now is the email function, and I am working on that. Check out the new implementation of the driving direction function on the map, it printer friendly to.
I was wondering if my users/YOU like the Google map or the Microsoft map? That is why I have been working on a Google implementation, of the Pilot locator. It looks like the Microsoft map you already know, but the new testsite uses the Google map.
Your vote is based on how you feel the load time, navigation and graphical details are.
Vote here and have a look at the two sites before your vote.
EDIT: sorry the vote plug-in was lost, but it was Google maps that won.
Please note that if you register on one of the maps your registration will show on both maps. Please register to show your support if you are an RC Pilot of any kind.
I have not implemented driving directions on the Google map. In addition, I have not tested the print function on the Google map.
If you choose the Google map, I will work on more functional and nicer looking pushpin text. In the future.
Please post a comment, if you have any about the two map implementations.
