Synergy E9 smacking with 2300 RPM

Matt Botos have just posted a video with his Synergy E9 getting some serious smack, you can tell from the head-speed at 2300 that this heli i is fast. But the flight time was short:)

First flight with JS Frenzy 90 TZ-V2

I was at the field today and finally the flight went as planed, i had some engine tuning issues last time, but with a reset of the needles that problem was slowed, i set the needles at 2 turns out, both needles.

And the the flight was on, my Idl 1 is set to 1550 Rpm and my Idl 2 i set to 1750 Rpm, i was manly flying in Idl 1 today, it is amazing what stuns you can pull with 1550 Rpm’s on the head, tic-toc i no problem. The model was flying perfect, i still need to fine tune my gyro, i have slow tail wage when i do fast pitch input, the Spartan Gyro is working great and i esspecialy like the fact that the piro-rate is constant and the tail is rock-solid.

This is a mix of two small videos i have made, with the camera laying on a table, there was no others then me at the field today :( sorry.

Scroll down to see some more pictures of the new canopy, the colors are great i can easily see the model in the air.

Okay first flight

Made it to the flying field today, great. It was cold and windy but the Frenzy was airborne and got 3 flight don. After the first full tank i re-tighten the tail belt it was a little lose, perfectly normal after first flight with a new helicopter.
I did run into another problem with the heli, it was not related to the Frenzy but the engine.
When i was flying IDL2 and did some fast flying the engine started to get very hot and started to lean out, but it is properly because i had set my governor a little to high in IDL2.

I have been concidering for some time if i should get the Align Super Starter, as you can see but i have not been 100% sure that it was a good starter for a 91 engine in the cold winters here in Denmark.

I then decided to fix my old starter, the new Frenzy has a one-bearing in the starter shaft that was great new, because my old starter wand one-way was broke. I mounted a new starter wand and two lipos on the side resulting in great power for the starter engine.
In combination with my new glow plug starter i can walk to the flight line and start my engine and not in the pilot area with my starter box. See pictures with my new starter and my glow plug starter with a meter on.

Any sponsors?

I am going to be honest with you, it is not very fun to have a Funtech muffler at this moment.

I have been struggling a bit with my muffler for the last couple of weeks, after I set my Freya up to run 1980RPM on the head, my Funtech muffler start to unscrew itself, not where it normally loosens but on the mount where the pipe is mounted see picture.

The defect Funtech muffler

Naive as I am, I started to remount the pipe mount with some bigger screws 5mm, and that was no problem until I started to run the engine, after two thanks the mount was starting to loosen again. I cannot mount a 6mm screw and that would problem not help either. The washers in the muffler were not looking good either see picture.

Now this defect is after max 10 gallons of fuel, which is a pure design if you ask me!

Any sponsors with a new muffler for my OS 91SZ running 1980RPM on the head. I can add some advertisement on my site as payment? Contact me

One other think I noticed today was my tail blades are staring to make resonance sound, I was hovering inverted and with a 10 degree angle against the wind the tail blades was making a lot of noise. I have heard about this issue from a fellow pilot with standard Hirobo Freya tail blades. I guess this means that I need new tail blades to.

This is one of the frustrating times for a heli pilot when the hardware does not play along. I was flying really great today, practicing tic-toc and doing inverted hover in all directions. Now I am back to the bench fixing my helicopter and begging the wife for approval to by a new muffler. I must be great to be a sponsored pilot. :)

One flight

After a long time waiting for better weather conditions I was out flying today, but it was only one flight, it was all worth the drive and the setting up.

It was very windy today, and I really could feel the advantage of the governor, and here is one piece of advice that all newcomers can use.

If you are newbie and starts with a nitro helicopter, get a governor on the helicopter. I know some of the old guys at the field would properly say that you have to learn how to adjust the engine. And that’s right you have to learn how to tune your engine, and when you have learned that, start using the governor.

I can’t count how many times I have been trying to adjust the gas and the pitch curves to get the perfect flying helicopter doing rolls and loops, but forget about it.
I must admit I am not the best guy to adjust a engine but I have learned it over the years, but getting the perfect gas and pitch curves is almost impossible.

And the governor solves that problem instantly, the only think you have to do is find you helicopter’s RPM sweet spot and then you can fine-fine tune the engine for perfect performance. Believe me if you already have a okay tuned engine, it is very easy to hear how the engine is running and what directions to turn the mixing screws.

Get a governor it’s worth it.

And a cool video to prepare for the summer. can’t wait.
